VLOG 1: Why an old Corvette?

In 2018 I sold relatively new Euro sedan. I had clocked only about 35K miles on it since purchase and ended up taking a bath. My per-mile cost of ownership (cost, maintenance, and depreciation) made this the most expensive car I’ve ever owned. While it was comfortable and reliable, it wasn’t special or sexy. So why did I do it?

I believe life is too short to drive a boring car. By selecting the kind of car that I really LOVED and putting effort into making it modern and reliable, I thought I could achieve my goal of owning a reliable car that is fun to drive, while also appreciating in value instead of depreciating.

In 2018 my girlfriend Kari and I flew to Springfield, Ohio to bring a 1976 Corvette back to Idaho. Buying a 42 year old car sight unseen and then driving it 2,000 miles home was a risk. I warned her it was not a matter of “if” we breakdown but more a matter of “how many times” we break down. After breaking down in Ohio, Omaha, and finally in Laramie—where we spent several days waiting for a new master cylinder, we made it home. I knew Kari was a keeper when she told me she would do this adventure “all over again!”
